Here is a short summary from some of our Students who have completed work experience with us:
Joel Wyart - February 2010
Joel spent a week on work experience with M J Taylor King Ltd, a building contractor in Harpenden. They had just started a big refurbishment job on a large house and outbuilding, which involved a full strip and re wire. Joel assisted with putting in the lighting circuits, lifting boards, taking out old cable, drilling joists and running new cable. He also went out on several other jobs which included a maintenance job at a hall, replacing bulbs and checking lighting, a fault finding job to sort out a light fitting malfunction, and a job to do a small extension of ring circuit.
Joel commented that they were a friendly company, and very helpful. He said that a week of practical work when you are not currently in the electrical trade is very useful, and considered it to be a valuable source of experience.
Michal Bogacz - November 2009
Having completed week 4 with us, Michal was able to fit in one day per week around his current employment to gain some on the job work experience. He assisted a local company, IC Electrical Services Ltd, from Romford, Essex, on a number of domestic jobs including fitting alarms and lighting circuits.
Iain from IC Electrical commented that Michal had the right attitude for the job and picked things up very quickly.
John Allison - September 2009
John spent a few days on work experience with Shenley Electrical in Milton Keynes. He assisted with the installation of fire alarms and emergency lighting to a 3 storey house which was being converted to multiple occupancy.
John said that it provided good experience for him, and also commented that the staff at Shenley had been very helpful.
Simon at Shenley Electrical was pleased with John's work, and has invited him back to assist with some testing and inspection work in the near future.
Mark Stannard - May 2009
Mark, who has completed his Week 4 with us, did a couple of weeks work experience with Shenley Electrical. This Milton Keynes based company was undertaking a project in Rugby that involved working on a Grade II listed, twenty-four bedroom stately home.
Mark told us that the type of work he was doing involved chasing our plasterwork, running a radial circuit form a ring main for a TV socket in all bedrooms and junction boxing light fittings. Mark said he found it very useful as it was the first time he had worked on a three-phase installation and he found it very enlightening.
Simon at Shenley Electrical was pleased with Mark's work and said he had given him a reference.
Rob Marshall - March 2009
Rob Marshall, who is on the last section of the course with Main Electrical Training, spent a couple of weeks working for M J Taylor King Ltd, a building contractor in Harpenden. M J Taylor King provides a wide range of building skills to domestic homeowners and commercial clients throughout Hertfordshire.
Rob accompanied an employee of the firm driving around various sites in a company van and dealt with a variety of electrical jobs plus additional maintenance work as and when it arose.
M J Taylor King said that they were very impressed with the standard of Rob’s work and added that ‘Rob was a credit to Main Electrical Training’.
Danny Mistretta - February 2009
Danny Mistretta, who finished the course with us in February 2009, spent two weeks doing work experience with P.J.B. Electrical Services in Bushey, Herts. Danny assisted with the total rewiring of a house in North London followed by a house in Ealing. The work involved ripping everything out and then putting everything back in from new.
Danny said that it great ‘hands on’ experience and extremely beneficial to see the job through from beginning to end.
PJB Electrical said that they were very pleased with the standard of Danny’s work and his dedication to the job.
