All 17th Edition courses Birmingham which we deliver teach 17th Edition to the new standard that incorporates amendment 1.
This amendment to the 17th Edition Regulations, and in turn the 17th Edition course, was published in July 2011 but comes into effect from January 2012.
The previous course is due to be retired which means that anyone who currently holds this previous course will now need to study the 2382-12 to remain current.
As a classroom only course, the 17th Edition training has no practical modules and, as such, is a theory only course. By incorporating the previous 17th Edition course, the 2382-12 contains training that combines aspects of the previous 17th Edition with the new sections set out in amendment 1. This creates a new course that allows learners to keep up with recent changes.
Here are the section additions set out in amendment 1 that are now included in the 17th Edition course Birmingham:
New Section 444 - Measures against Electromagnetic disturbances: Any equipment such as lifts, transformers and fluorescent lighting can cause electromagnetic disturbances and this interference can damage IT equipment, components and circuits. This new section suggests recommendations to avoid and reduce electromagnetic disturbances.
New Section 534 - Devices for protection against overvoltage (surge protection): Transient voltages can have a peak value of 6kV. Lightning strike and electrical switching can give transient overvoltages to installations. This new section requires the installation of SPDs to limit transient overvoltages and divert surge current away from sensitive equipment.
New Section 710 - Medical locations: Strict measures are needed to ensure the safety of medical patients especially where they are likely to be subjected to the application of medical electrical equipment.
New Section 729 - Operating or maintenance gangways: Regulation 15 of the Electricity at Work Act requires working space, access and lighting to be correctly and adequately provided where work is being carried out. This new section includes requirements for gangway width, access, emergency access and emergency evacuation.
Appendix Six - Model forms for certification and reporting: Periodic inspection and testing is required because electrical installations can deteriorate over time. As legislation states that electrical installations should be maintained, periodic inspection and testing of installations is required.
Taking place on the third day of the course, the final examination is two hours long.
All those who pass the 17th Edition course Birmingham will receive a certificate qualification and will be able to complete work to that standard.
The 17th Edition course Birmingham is three days long in total.
Anyone who needs 17th Edition to be able to further enhance their career or to be able to enter the electrical industry will need to study the 2382-12.
It is also essential for those who hold the previous, now retired, 17th Edition qualification to allow these people to study current regulation standards.
It is essential that all learners are interested in the subject matter. It is also important that the candidate has a basic knowledge of electrics. Any prior electrical training would be an advantage when completing the 17th Edition course Birmingham.
The 17th Edition qualification is important for almost all electrical career routes and allows those who successfully complete it to move on to study further higher level courses and qualifications
All learners on the 17th Edition course Birmingham must familiarise themselves with a current copy of the 17th Edition Wiring Regulations including Amendment 1.
This green book should be brought along to the course.
