City & Guilds 17th Edition 2382-12 Electrical Training Course

The City and Guilds 2382-12 is a new training course and examination covering the new standard of Wiring Regulations for Electrical Installers. The IET has amended the IEE Wiring Regulations 17th Edition (BS 7671:2008 incorporating amendment no 1: 2011) on 1st July 2011. Addiionally, City & Guilds have launched a new exam based on the new Green book. From September 2011 candidates can sit the 17th Edition 2382-12 examination although the regulations do not come into force until 1st January 2012.

The new 17th edition 2382-12 exam is a 60-question open book, multiple choice exam. Similar to the City & Guilds 2382-10 qualification, the 2382-12 exam will be completed online using City & Guilds' Gola system and will be available at our accredited training centres in London and Stockton-on-Tees.

When is the new 2382-12 available from PASS?

In correspondence with the new regulations, PASS will be change from the 2382-10 to the 2382-12 exam on 1st December 2011. This means that any 17th Edition Course held after this date will be based on the IEE Wiring Regulations 17th Edition (BS 7671:2008 incorporating amendment no 1: 2011) The Green Book.

17th Edition 2382-12 Training Course

As with the previous 2382-10 course, the 2382-12 course is a classroom-based course covering everything within the IEE 17th Edition Wiring Regulations (Green 17th Edition Book).  It will give you the knowledge needed to take the 2382-12 exam which is taken at the end of the course on the third day.

The course is suitable for anyone who works within the electrical industry including:

·         Electricians and electrical installers

·         Domestic Installers

·         Building maintenance personnel

·         Electrical supervisors

·         Any person who deals with electrical installations within buildings.

New Section 444 - Measures against Electromagnetic disturbances

Any equipment such as lifts, transformers and fluorescent lighting can cause electromagnetic disturbances and this interference can damage IT equipment, components and circuits.  This new section suggests recommendations to avoid and reduce electromagnetic disturbances.

New Section 534 - Devices for protection against overvoltage (surge protection)

Transient voltages can have a peak value of 6kV. Lightning strike and electrical switching can give transient overvoltages to installations. This new section requires the installation of SPDs to limit transient overvoltages and divert surge current away from sensitive equipment.

New Section 710 - Medical locations

Strict measures are needed to ensure the safety of medical patients especially where they are likely to be subjected to the application of medical electrical equipment.

New Section 729 - Operating or maintenance gangways

Regulation 15 of the Electricity at Work Act requires working space, access and lighting to be correctly and adequately provided where work is being carried out. This new section includes requirements for gangway width, access, emergency access and emergency evacuation.

Appendix Six - Model forms for certification and reporting

Periodic inspection and testing is required because electrical installations can deteriorate over time. As legislation states that electrical installations should be maintained, periodic inspection and testing of installations is required.
